Masonry Cement is a hydraulic cement produced specifically for use in mortar for unit masonry construction.

Type M Mortar

St. Marys Type 1A Cement is a general-use cement that is air entrained. Air entrainment is added to improve durability in exterior concrete in freeze/thaw conditions. St. Marys Type 1A Cement exceeds ASTM C150 Standard Specification for Portland Cement.

Portland Cement

The color of white cement is determined by its raw materials and the manufacturing process. Metal oxides, primarily iron and manganese, influence the whiteness and undertone of the material. Federal White Cement is a Portland cement manufactured with select raw materials to insure negligible amounts of iron and manganese oxides which are the chief contributors of grey cement color.

Moderate strength Type N is acceptable for general use such as exposed non load-bearing masonry walls, above grade plain masonry and for tuck-pointing.

Federal White Type N masonry cement can be used to match, contrast, and complement the colors of various masonry units, enhance the aesthetic color of a wall, or coordinate other colors in a design. It may be used for any masonry application where a white or a very light colored masonry joint is desired.

Type N Mortar

Holcim Type N is a masonry cement that is used to make masonry mortars for brick, block, tile, and stone masonry, as well as stucco. It is made of one part portland cement, one part lime, and six parts sand, and has a medium compressive strength of 750 psi. Type N mortar can achieve 28 day strength between 1500 and 2400 psi.

Where a higher compressive strength is required, such as for parging, foundation walls and walls designed with reinforcement, a stronger more durable cement such as Type S Masonry Cement is recommended.

Lafarge Masonry Cement is specially formulated and manufactured to produce masonry mortar for use in brick, block, and stone masonry construction when properly mixed with mason sand and clean, potable water. This cement is suggested for use in exterior, above-grade, load-bearing wall, parapet wall and non-load bearing wall systems; exterior, at-grade, or below-grade systems (foundation and retaining walls, manholes, sewers); and interior load-bearing walls and non-load bearing systems.
